Peter E. Heinz

Founding Principal, AIA

Received his Bachelor’s in Environmental Design and Master of Architecture from the University of Colorado at Boulder in the mid seventies. In the ensuing fifty years, PEH has participated and successfully completed a wide variety of architectural and planning projects. Since founding the sole proprietorship, work has focused on renovation of existing and design of new educational facilities, accessibility review and implementation, program planning for educational facilities, municipal projects such as fire stations and libraries, and recycling existing residential and commercial projects for Boulder’s changing demographics.

Christopher Mirto

Managing Principal, AIA, LEED AP
Received his Bachelor’s in Environmental Design from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1999. During his time at CU, he volunteered at the campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity, and was involved in both field work and staffing the on-campus office. Chris has been employed at PEH since the summer of 1998, when he assumed the lead role in model production in the office. Since joining the team full-time, he has taken on numerous other responsibilities, including construction document drafting, shop drawing coordination and record keeping. Additionally, he has successfully managed projects through the City of Boulder’s extensive design review/entitlement process.

Justin Price

Partner, Sr. Project Manager, Assoc. AIA, LEED AP
Justin is a Colorado native with a Bachelor’s in Environmental Design from the University of Colorado Boulder and a Master’s Degree in Architecture from the University of Colorado Denver. Since joining PEH ARCHITECTS in 2006, Justin has grown into a Senior Project Manager role leading many of the firm’s commercial, retail, and industrial projects. It’s Justin’s technical knowledge and construction detailing abilities that have guided the firm’s projects from the entitlement process through construction.

Erin Gambacorta

Partner, Sr. Project Manager, Assoc. AIA, CPHD
Erin received her Bachelor’s in Fine Arts, with a concentration in Architecture, from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2005, and later went on to receive a Masters of Architecture in 2006. Following graduation, she was employed for several years at a high-end residential firm in Charleston, SC where she was active in the design community through volunteering with school educational programs, and enrolling in several continuing education courses including Passive House training. Erin is a Certified Passive House Designer (CPHD) with the Passive House Institute and International Passive House Institute, and looks forward to leading the charge in implementing Passive House design techniques to provide all clients with healthier and more energy efficient projects. As a Senior Project Manager, Erin’s hands on approach and close attention to detail has contributed to numerous successful projects.

Mari Blaser

Sr. Project Manager, Assoc. AIA
Mari developed her skills in architectural and engineering construction technology as well as computer-aided drafting at Front Range Community College in Westminster, Colorado. She also studied architecture at Kent State University in Ohio where she spent a semester studying abroad in Florence, Italy. While in Italy she studied the use of historic design concepts and techniques in modern architecture and historic preservation within modern urban planning. She enjoys studying historic preservation and researching sustainable design and urban planning. In addition to using CAD and Revit she also loves to hand draft. At PEH she uses a multitude of computer software to create documents and presentations. She is detail oriented, which aids in the creation of presentations and project packets. She is also passionate about photography, sustainable construction techniques, and sensitive historic preservation.

Nick Brown

Designer/Manager, Assoc. AIA
Nick graduated from University of Colorado with a Bachelor’s in Environmental Design with an emphasis on Architecture. He plans on following through with a Masters in Architecture. Nick has worked as a drafter for military companies, including Boeing, as a civilian contractor. Nick excels in AutoCAD and Revit, with expertise in Photoshop. While continually strengthening and learning new architectural skills, Nick provides an organized and efficient approach to preparing construction documents for the residential and commercial tenant finish projects he coordinates.

Michael Sims

Designer/Manager, Assoc. AIA
Michael received his Bachelor’s in Environmental Design with a focus on Architecture from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2023. Prior to joining PEH ARCHITECTS, he gained valuable hands-on experience in residential construction, where he developed practical skills and gained an in-depth understanding of the construction process. This experience has enriched his academic and professional journey, enabling him to bring real-world insights into his design work. Passionate about the intersection of architecture, sustainability, and human experience, Michael is deeply interested in exploring how thoughtful design can enhance both the environment and the lives of those who interact with it daily. As a recent graduate, he is excited to start his professional career, continually developing his skills, and pursuing licensure through the AXP. Michael is committed to creating innovative and responsible designs that contribute to a better, more sustainable future.

Colleen Roche

Designer, Assoc. AIA
Colleen received her Bachelor’s in Science in Architecture from Catholic University in Washington, DC in 2023. She has experience managing home repair projects in central Appalachia over her summers in college, and Colleen completed a year of AmeriCorps with Habitat for Humanity after graduation, where she learned firsthand about construction from the other side of the drafting board. Colleen brings this experience to the team at PEH ARCHITECTS through her attention to detail in producing construction documents and an eagerness to work on projects with a diverse range of construction methods. As a recent graduate, Colleen is excited to continue learning and see her design efforts rewarded in the built environment of the Front Range. Outside of work, Colleen is passionate about hiking, travelling, and generally being outside and trying new things.

Joe Clayton

Drafter, Associate AIA

Joe received his Bachelor’s in Building Design & Construction from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah in 2021. This gave him fundamental knowledge of the Built Environment – studying Architecture, Interior Design, and Construction/Facilities Management. For his Capstone project WSU partnered with the local Habitat for Humanity chapter – designing a 10-plex Townhouse with emphasis on sustainability and energy efficiency. He worked locally at a firm for a couple of years before venturing out to Colorado and joining the PEH ARCHITECTS team. He brings tech skills, like AutoCAD, Revit, and Sketchup, as well as an analytical mindset that’s curiosity driven with attention to detail when working on projects. Joe loves to continue to learn, especially when it comes to Historical Preservation and Sustainability.
